Vanessa Kirby has proved time and time again what a worthy actress she is. Widely commended for her exceptional performances on the big screen, the 35-year-old actress has defied all odds and bagged a role in one of the biggest and most dominating franchises in the entire entertainment industry within less than a decade since her professional acting debut: The $4 billion worth Mission: Impossible franchise.

Clearly, an industry giant when it comes to action flicks, Kirby has achieved splendid success ever since she first appeared in the Tom Cruise starrer Mission: Impossible – Fallout. However, her comment on not wanting to work in big American films has raised the question as to whether Kirby regrets having secured a role in one of the wealthiest action franchises in the industry.

Vanessa Kirby is one of the most applauded actresses of today’s day and age. It all started back when she turned down a drama position at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art after graduating from Exeter University as she got signed up by a talent agency and bagged a spot in three plays by David Thacker at the Octagon Theatre Bolton.

Recounting her entire experience as a stage actress, Kirby said in an interview with the Independent back in 2016:

“I think my natural home was always the stage. I always saw myself as a stage actress, and that was the reason I wanted to act, but very slowly I’ve changed.”

Continuing, The Crown actress shared her entire experience of going from stage plays to her professional acting debut:

“But [the] film is also a craft and you have to learn screen acting and I’ve always felt that it’s also the kind of place that you have to do time, much like when you’re on stage, I was doing my time at school, in bad amateur productions – that’s mean, but some were bad, or at least I was bad in them – tons of university plays so that when I went on stage as a professional, I felt ready to take the plunge.”

However, despite being such a tremendous on-screen presence and even scoring an Oscar nomination within a mere decade of her arrival in the entertainment industry, Vanessa Kirby feels she is more suited to independent American cinema than to big films from big franchises.

Continuing to tell the Independent in the more than half-a-decade-old interview, Vanessa Kirby stated how “her American ambitions are not Hollywood,” which raises suspicion as to whether the actress regrets having secured a role in the $4 billion action franchise: the Mission: Impossible saga. She said:

“It’s not the big American films that I want to do. It’s the independent American cinema, [with] directors like Charlie Kaufman, Drake Doremus, and Derek Cianfrance. Equally, there are many Europeans, like Paolo Sorrentino, that I’m completely obsessed with. So I think you have to find your tribe in a way.”

However, considering how she is still a part of the franchise even years since and is also reportedly confirmed to appear in the ‘deemed as’ last part of Tom Cruise‘s action saga, i.e. Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two, it seems unlikely that The Crown actress is regretting her decision.

As for her working in the independent American cinema, Vanessa Kirby seems to have found her way around judging from the roles she secured in individual films like Pieces of a Woman and her upcoming historical drama movie, Napoleon.
