However, the director, Shawn Levy’s recent comment made all the difference to the presumed idea reflecting the essence of Hugh Jackman’s character in the Ryan Reynolds-lead movie. As the title suggests, Wolverine is not just a ploy for marketing but will complement the same like Reynolds’ Deadpool.

To begin with, it was a huge gamble to bring back Wolverine after his cinematic death, but everything is possible in the MCU. With the return of Wolverine, the movie has gotten further prominence, but some fans still had doubts fearing bringing Hugh Jackman’s character on board was just a marketing gimmick. However, the recent comments of the director, Shawn Levy cleared the cloud of doubt as he went on to reveal that Deadpool 3 is not just another extension of the franchise.

“As far as crafting the Deadpool and Wolverine story, I just felt privileged every day because you’re talking about two massive movie stars in their most iconic roles. It also gave me an opportunity. It’s the third Deadpool movie, but it’s not Deadpool 3. It’s a different thing that’s very much Deadpool and Wolverine. And it’s not trying to copycat anything from the first two movies. They were awesome, but this is a two-hander character adventure,” Levy told ScreenRant in an exclusive interview at CinemaCon.

Of course, Jackman previously teased the same in a funnier way as he posted on X an alteration of the title of the movie following the announcement. But the involvement of Wolverine receiving almost the same amount of screentime is definitely an expectation booster.

Levy’s comment on the film and Wolverine’s character has certainly elevated the expectations. Also, “two-hander” vehemently signifies the fact that the movie will have more of Wolverine, more variants. The director further spoke about Ryan Reynolds and Jackman’s characters in the movie.

“Well, I’ll tell you that the guiding thought in crafting the movie was audience joy. That was always the North Star. Yeah, it’s going to be gnarly. Yeah, it’s gonna be funny. That’s a given. But we wanted to build a great time at the theater for audiences, and that’s our goal,” he told ScreenRant.

Also, for the assurance of the fans, in an interview with Collider, Levy revealed that the movie has received positive reactions from the early test screenings. “We have had some early screenings that were extremely, extremely promising,” he said.

“I wouldn’t say that there were any big surprises, but you feel where the pace wants to tighten, you feel where you can afford to slow down and have a deeper, more durable character moment.”

Even for Marvel Studios, Deadpool 3 is the most important movie of the year. In fact, the studio has kept the year quiet for its theatrical releases pushing the upcoming movie with the two dynamic characters to a great level.

Deadpool & Wolverine will hit the theaters on 26 July 2024.
