Recently, Scott Derrickson, the director of Doctor Strange shared a list on Twitter, where he was extremely unhappy with the ranking of Doctor Stranger as it was the movie that opened the doors for Marvel’s multiverse saga. The director shared his thoughts on the ranking of the movies, despite the list being created on the basis of quality.

Why was Scott Derrickson Upset with the Ranking?

Recently, The Wrap released a ‘Best to Worst’ list of MCU movies. Scott Derrickson, the director of Doctor Strange shared that list on Twitter and shared his opinion about some of the ‘poorly’ ranked movies in the list.

Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther

The Doctor Strange director “strongly disagreed” with the ranking of Black Panther, and Captain America: The First Avenger the two films that ranked 6th and 27th on the list comprising 31 MCU films.

Scott Derrickson shared the list stating that he posted the list not because his film is ranked 4th on the list. He agrees with most of the films, however, he did not agree with the ranking of the two films mentioned in the above paragraph, as the rankings were “too low”

“Obviously I posted this because it places ‘Doctor Strange’ at #4. Otherwise, there are placements on the list I pretty much agree with and others that I strongly don’t. Most notably, I think ‘Black Panther’ and ‘Captain America: First Avenger’ are both way too low.”

A still from Captain America: The First Avenger

The director believes that Captain America: The First Avenger starring Chris Evans is one of the most underrated movies, as the origin of the First Avenger is done perfectly, being one of the best shot films in the MCU.

“If there is a single MCU movie that I consider ‘underrated’ it’s First Avenger. It has one of the richest origin stories and is one of the most beautifully shot films in the entire Marvel cannon.”

Scott Derrickson also criticized the list for placing Ant-Man in the second-last position, because everyone enjoyed the film starring Paul Rudd.

“Second to last but yeah that’s too low – I really like Ant-Man”

A majority of Marvel fans were also complaining about placing RDJ’s Iron Man 2 on the 28th rank in the list created by The Wrap.

Why did Scott Derrickson Praise these MCU movies?

Scott Derrickson agreed to most of the rankings on the list and it was great of him to give limelight to these underrated movies of the MCU. In spite of Black Panther being placed in the 6th position on the list, fans have often debated if the film was the best/most important movie or both, in the MCU.

Ant-Man and Captain America: The First Avenger are two of the most underrated solo origin movies for two of the best superheroes in the Marvel Universe. Neither of the two movies had big stakes compared to the sequels in their respective trilogies, however, fans would not skip these films and would always have a sweet spot for these movies.
