Jason Momoa featuring Aquaman 2 is set to release in December this year. While the lead actor is rumored to play both Aquaman and Lobo under James Gunn’s new DCU, nothing has yet been confirmed about Momoa’s future. And as fans wait for the studio to reveal what they have in store for the Aquaman star, it looks like things aren’t going too well for his upcoming DC film. The sequel to the 2018 action adventure has already had multiple screenings.

Aquaman 2 Fails at Multiple Test Screenings

Some of the latest DC films have not been getting very impressive reviews. While the earlier DCEU films like Black Adam ended up receiving mixed reviews, things seemed to be going well for the films like Blue Beetle and The Flash. The Ezra Miller feature has been extraordinarily well-received and is also deemed to be the best DC film yet.

However, that might not be the case for Aquaman 2. It has held six test screenings so far and reportedly failed all of them. Sources have described the film as “boring” and “potentially the worst DCEU film” so far. Insider ViewerAnon claimed on Reddit that the film does not look great even after “half a dozen test screenings.”

Another insider backed up his comment about the film, saying that “test screenings for [Aquaman 2] have not been good.” Industry insider Jeff Sneider has also claimed that its test screenings have not been received very well, and that could be the reason why Momoa is being rumored to switch to Lobo under James Gunn’s new DCU.

Aquaman 2 has already been facing issues due to Amber Heard’s involvement in the sequel. However, insiders also revealed that it has nothing to do with Amber Heard’s presence, as she doesn’t have much screen time in the sequel.

Jason Momoa earlier claimed that he would always be Aquaman but could play other characters too. It led many to believe that he could join the new DCU as Lobo and could also continue to portray the King of Atlantis. However, the co-CEO has seemingly denied the claims of the Slumberland star portraying two characters in DCU.

DC Studios’ Co-CEO Denies Jason Momoa Playing Two Characters

However, Peter Safran has denied the claim saying that no actor would be playing two different characters in DCU. During a press event, he made it clear that Momoa would not be playing two characters. He also said that it is too early and no decision has been made regarding his future.

Safran also seemed to deny a threequel to the 2018 film. He said, “Jason always thought Aquaman was a trilogy in his own mind.” The co-CEO also said that the Dune star has also been very eager to portray Lobo, but he would “not play two characters.”
