No One Is Ready To Buy Francis Ford Coppola’s Film!

With 40 years in the making, Ford Coppola’s magnum opus, called Megalopolis is one of the grandest movies that the director has ever envisioned. During production and development, the film suffered through several challenges both physical and indirect and yet, it stood the test of time.

Based on an advanced colony whose support pillar gets shaken up due to a tragedy, the film seems to be quite a spectacle. Although Francis Ford Coppola is a name that draws audiences to theaters, there seems to be just one minor $200 million problem that might hinder the film from getting distributed. As per a report by The Hollywood Reporterhere’s what Coppola’s expenditure for the 40-year-old movie looks like.

The project cost $120 million to make (from Francis Ford Coppola’s own pocket). A source close to THR reported that “Coppola assumed he would make a deal very quickly, and that a studio would happily commit to a massive P&A (prints and advertising, including all marketing) spend in the vicinity of $40 million domestically, and $80 million to $100 million globally.”

Well, the real-life scenario isn’t exactly so and Ford Coppola is at his wits’ end. But why did the shooting of the movie take 40 years? Well, the answer might surprise you.

Well, as we mentioned earlier Megalopolis is based on a modern city that gets met with an unforeseen disaster, Francis Ford Coppola had to halt his film because of the real-life tragedy that struck New York back in 2001.

Starting his work back in 1983, Coppola’s film had to come to a halt. The plot of the film consists of a modern city trying to rebuild its architecture after the collapse and as per THR, there are two lead characters in the film. With two architects competing with each other on their vision of the city, there are references to ancient Rome and the film is quite everywhere.

With a unique storyline and getting delayed with a high investment of money, Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis might not get to see the light of the day. There are reports that the film is announced to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival where Coppola hopefully gets some studios interested!
