Chris Pratt Fends off Criticism to Become The Perfect Mario

Recreating a film based on a popular video game is a challenging task. Remaking it after the original live-action film in 1993 flopped is a courageous decision. But The Super Mario Bros. Movie defied all odds and opened to rave reviews in April 2023. A large part of its acclaim is the casting choices featuring many A-listers including Chris Pratt, Seth Rogen, and Jack Black. Pratt, in particular, raised eyebrows for being cast in the role of Mario with many criticizing the decisions to cast celebrity actors over voice talents in films.

But Pratt proved everyone wrong with his brilliant portrayal of the loved Italian plumber from Brooklyn. With his quintessential charm, the Marvel star brought the affable and clumsy Mario to life in a perfect adaptation. The Jurassic World actor took some creative liberties and substituted the trademark high-pitched voice of Mario to embody a more pronounced Brooklyn accent. His effort at individuality reaped big rewards with the massive success of the film.
