Blunt pondered the aspects of female character portrayals in movies that irked her. She noted that such roles often demand a portrayal of unwavering toughness, with characters consistently displaying resilience and uttering resolute dialogue. In an interview with The Telegraph, Emily Blunt, who portrays aristocrat Lady Cornelia Locke in The English, described her role as “more surprising than that.

“I love a character with a secret,” the actress revealed. Blunt then compares her latest character to these other stoic tough roles. “I loved Cornelia’s buoyancy, her hopefulness, her guilelessness,” she said. Blunt also shared how Cornelia defies restrictions when it comes to writing personality traits: “She’s innocent without being naive and that makes her a force to be reckoned with,” she said. “I thought that was very cool”.

In the 2022 western miniseries The English, Emily Blunt takes on the character of Lady Cornelia Locke, an Englishwoman who embarks on a journey to the American West, driven by her conviction that the man she seeks holds responsibility for her son’s tragic demise.

“I got so scared. First that she would say no, because that’s just an awkward dinner. Yeah. And after that, it’s just a lot. But I was actually more afraid that she’d say, yes, I’ll do it for you.”

John Krasinski was reluctant to offer the role to his wife, Emily Blunt, as he didn’t want her to simply accept it because of their relationship. He highly regarded her as “the classiest, smartest, most dedicated actress” he knew, acknowledging her unwavering commitment to her craft. He refrained from approaching her, fearing his involvement might sway her decision. However, it was Emily Blunt herself who insisted on being a part of the 2018 project, eventually convincing him to collaborate.
