Daisy Ridley teams up with James Bond director Martin Campbell for an action-packed Die Hard-style film. Campbell is known for helming action blockbusters such as GoldenEye, Casino Royale, and The Mask of Zorro; his upcoming project, Cleaner, will not be any different. The Ophelia star will find herself transformed into a former special forces soldier named Joey Locke whose job now is to clean windows on London’s Shard building.

Daisy Ridley Could Not Get Over Intense Action Scenes In Martin Campbell’s Movies

During her conversation with Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, actress Daisy Ridley revealed how she prepared for her upcoming role in Martin Campbell’s Cleaner and what she thinks about the director’s movie style.

I would say the classic Martin [is] action, suspense, humor. Honestly, we watched his films [and] I’m like they all have a great sense of humor. Yes, it’s violent, like super violent.”

Ridley will be challenged in this film as she will go full John McClane after activists take 300 hostages locked inside the building. She also remarked the brutal fight scenes presented in the movie are nothing like she’s ever done before.

Actually, before I started all the fighting stuff, I was trying to watch other films with action between women, and they are more difficult to come by. But also, I think it’s unusual to see a woman beaten up in this way. It was super intense. We did not take it easy on the bruising and everything.”

The actress has long struggled to make a career outside of the Star Wars realm, and while she has appeared in other less popular franchises, it never really advanced her footing in the industry. With her upcoming project with Campbell, fans will witness her versatility. In a statement via Deadline, the director shared what fans can expect from the film:

Cleaner is a nail-biting thriller, unique and original in both its characters and its setting. Much of the film takes place on the side of the Shard – hundreds of feet up in the air – and I want the audience to be up there with Joey in a stomach-churning, vertiginous experience. There isn’t a more instinctive and powerful actress than Daisy right now to help us do just that. The majority of my movies have been thrillers, and Cleaner is one of the best I’ve ever read.”

Clive Owen and Taz Skylar are also part of the cast. There is no announced release date yet for Campbell’s Cleaner.

Daisy Ridley will reprise her role as Rey in the upcoming Star Wars movie called New Jedi Order. It’s no secret that she has become the recipient of extreme s*xist backlash on the Internet which affected her emotionally, but this time she could not care less anymore.

Her team-up with director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy also seems to encourage the actress to focus on the positive side of things. The filmmaker’s body of work, especially her documentaries, speaks volumes on the fight against discrimination and other sensitive topics.

With Ridley engaging in other projects apart from her commitment to Star Wars, fans will see how versatile she truly is.
