In a resurfaced interview with IndieWire, Christopher Nolan explained that the globe-trotting aspects in Batman Begins were heavily influenced by Bond films. He cited The Spy Who Loved Me as one of his earliest film memories and noted how the Bond movies served as a prime example of grandeur and immersive storytelling.

When it comes to borrowing from the Bond franchise, Christopher Nolan didn’t shy away in Inception. Yet, he found it ironic that “Inception” faced accusations of being strongly influenced by Bond, despite having fewer Bond elements compared to his other films.

Christopher Nolan Knows The Hurdles For Directing A James Bond Film

Christopher Nolan openly expressed his willingness to take on the iconic franchise. However, during an interview on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, he emphasized the importance of being in a specific creative mindset to embark on such a project. Like his work on Batman, Nolan believed that directing a Bond film carried significant responsibilities he had to be prepared for.

Nolan said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast:

“At the same time, when you take on a character like that you’re working with a particular set of constraints,” Nolan said. “It has to be the right moment in your creative life where you can express what you want to express and really burrow into something within the appropriate constraints because you would never want to take on something like that and do it wrong.”
