The same happened at the recent Grammys as people decided that Ben Affleck was drunk, bored, and ready to leave his wife at the event. Out of this, only the last thing is true as per the actor.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ben Affleck talked about accidentally becoming a Grammy meme. While social media thought that he was drunk and bored at the event, he was anything but. As per the former Batman actor, he had a good time at the function, but he was ready to leave his wife with Marvel star Trevor Noah as a joke before Lopez threatened him to stay put. Affleck said:

‘I had a good time at the Grammys. My wife was going, and I thought, ‘Well, there’ll be good music. It might be fun.’… I saw [Grammy host Trevor Noah approach] and I was like, ‘Oh, God.’ They were framing us in this shot, but I didn’t know they were rolling. I leaned into her and I was like, ‘As soon they start rolling, I’m going to slide away from you and leave you sitting next to Trevor.’ She goes, ‘You better fucking not leave.'”

Affleck said that he has been drunk and pissed off at other events but nobody ever pointed it out like it was done at the Grammys. As per the actor:

“I’ve gone to events and been pissed off. I’ve gone and been bored. I’ve gone to award shows and been drunk, a bunch. Nobody ever once said I’m drunk. [But at the Grammys] they were like, ‘He’s drunk.’ And I thought, that’s interesting. That raises a whole other thing about whether or not it’s wise to acknowledge addiction because there’s a lot of compassion, but there is still a tremendous stigma, which is often quite inhibiting.”

The Batman v Superman star has been open about his struggle with alcohol addiction and has admitted that he has become a sort of poster boy for falling into and then recovering from alcoholism. However, the star has admitted that this has helped others seek the help needed to recover from addiction.

In the interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ben Affleck talked about how openly addressing his alcohol addiction in public helped others come to him for help. He said:

“I became — out of no desire of my own — one of the poster boys for actor alcoholism and recovery and the whole thing. And the best part about that is that sometimes people call me up and they’re like, ‘Hey, can you help me out?’ And it makes me feel so good to do that. The big trick of 12-step is the reason they want you to help other people is because it actually helps you more.”

In the interview, he also hinted that he was done with superhero films altogether due to his experience filming Justice League which made him drink way more. Affleck explained:

“I started to drink too much. I was back at the hotel in London, it was either that or jump out the window. And I just thought, ‘This isn’t the life I want. My kids aren’t here. I’m miserable.'”

As such, it now looks like Affleck is turning over a new leaf with his production company, Artists Equity, and his new film, Air, that’s a biography about the most iconic shoe deal in American sports.

Air will be released on 5 April 2023.
