Actress Keira Knightley gained significant popularity in the 2000s and it’s hard to not talk about 2003’s Love Actually when we talk about her success. While the movie was very important for the actress’ career, Knightley has one regret: wearing a hat in a scene in the movie. It may have looked out of place but there was a particular reason why she wore it.
Knightley once revealed that she wore the hat in order to hide acne. It was natural for her as she was just a teenager back then, but she preferred the hat instead of makeup to cover the pimple. Love Actually made Knightley a household name and created bigger opportunities for the star.
Keira Knightley wore a hat in Love Actually to hide a pimple
During her 2018 appearance on BBC Radio 1, actress Keira Knightley revealed that she wore the hat in 2003’s Love Actually because of a specific reason,
“I had a massive spot in the middle of my forehead – This is the problem with being 17 and being in films! It was humongous, so there was no choice but to find a hat to cover it – because there was no lighting or makeup that was going to cover it.”
Throughout the 2000s, Knightley consistently gave excellent performances in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Bend It Like Beckham (2002), Atonement (2007), and The Duchess (2008). Love Actually initially failed to impress the viewers but over the years, the film managed to find its audience.
Keira Knightley will always be grateful for that hat
For many years, the actress’ hat in the movie has been a topic of discussion as it certainly looked out of place. However, Knightley says that she will forever be grateful for that hat,
“It’s funny how you just remember extreme embarrassment – I remember coming in in the morning, being like, ‘Oh wow, I’ve got another head on my head. What are we going to do?’ There’s nothing we can do about this. But there is, because you can always put a hat over it!”
Today, Knightley is, without a doubt, one of the most popular stars in the entertainment industry. For her exceptional work, Knightley has earned numerous accolades, including nominations for two Academy Awards, three BAFTAs, three Golden Globes, and a Laurence Olivier Award.
