Christian Bale Felt Scared To Go Through Another Body Transformation

Christian Bale spoke with The Guardian and revealed his honest feelings about his iconic weight transformations. When he starred in The Machinist in 2004, the actor had to starve to look extremely skinny, but as he worked on Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins in 2005, he had to bulk up a little. How Bale did this is beyond comprehension. He told the outlet:

I’ve got to stop doing it. I suspect it’s going to take longer to get this off.”

The Ford v Ferrari star once promised to never undergo any weight transformation after starring in American Hustle (2013), but he ended up joining Vice (2018) where he had to gain weight again. He shared:

These pants are one of the few pairs I’ve got that have these straps on the side so I can still fit into ’em. I’m not big on shopping, so you end up with a lot of elasticated things.”

One of Bale’s most incredible body weight loss was in The Machinist. His dedication to the movie made him lose 60 lbs. The actor discussed about the perks of extreme fasting:

It’s an amazing experience doing that. When you’re so skinny that you can hardly walk up a flight of stairs… you’re, like, this being of pure thought. It’s like you’ve abandoned your body. That’s the most Zen-like state I’ve ever been in my life.”

However, this calm state does not last as soon as the hours of fasting are over. Bale further added:

Two hours sleep, reading a book for 10 hours straight without stopping… unbelievable. You couldn’t rile me up. No rollercoaster of emotions. As soon as you start putting the food back in your stomach, the rollercoaster comes back.”

At the age of 49, any more dramatic body transformation would definitely take a toll on Bale’s health.

Christian Bale’s latest body transformation, despite promising he will never do such a thing again, was in the 2022 MCU film Thor: Love and Thunder. The actor revealed he had already lost weight for a previous project before he hopped into the MCU film via Entertainment Tonight:

I went from one film straight to Thor. I usually like to have a lot more time in between, but it was literally like three days between that and going into quarantine down in Australia. I was already quite skinny for the film that I’d made before.”

Still, there was a change in his body’s usual mass, and he even had to shave his head for the role. It seems like Bale is having a hard time staying away from projects that require him to do crazy makeovers.
