Chris Evans has imprinted an indelible legacy in the entertainment industry all thanks to his acclaimed acting skills. In addition to his impeccable work, his irresistible charms further captivated many hearts, thus helping him acquire the title of ‘Sexiest Man Alive’. But before he gained global recognition with his Captain America role in Marvel Cinematic Universe, he portrayed another superhero in the 2000s.

He played the role of Human Torch in Fantastic Four (2005) and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007). However, many might be unaware of the fact that the movie series was supposed to be a trilogy but was eventually scrapped. Given that Evans had a crucial part in both the series, he deep down knew that the Marvel threequel was doomed.

In a 2008 interview with MTV, Marvel alum, Chris Evans seemingly saw no potential in a third installment of his Fantastic Four movies. The first two Marvel movies were critically panned however performed well at the box office. 

After the harsh response from the critics and moviegoers to the 2007 movie, he was quite sure that the franchise would not move forward with the third part.

He shared in the interview, 

“I’m pretty sure we won’t do [another] one. I’m assuming that one is a closed book.”

He continued, 

“After the first one was released we got wind of potential titles and plots [almost immediately], and I’ve heard nothing from anyone at Fox [yet].”

Since there was no news about a third movie in the plan, he assumed that it wouldn’t come to fruition.

“We had all planned on doing [another] one but if there were going to be a third I think a week after the second one was released we would have heard.”

He would have seemingly understood the future of the threequel which was evident in its box-office numbers as the movie’s sales continued to diminish during the screening. While this role was for a short while, it surely was a great experience for him.

The Avengers: Endgame actor in an appearance on The Hollywood Reporter‘s podcast recalled the moment when he got the call to portray the superhero role in the 2000s.

That was back when the superhero thing was just taking off.” He continued, “For the most part, this was right on the heels of the Spider-Man with Tobey Maguire and the X-Men, so the super hero thing was just taking off.”

While he was unable to recall all of his casting calls, he still remembered the moment to became a part of Marvel’s first family. 

“You try to remember the moments in your life when you get those phone calls to get a job and I’m ashamed to admit that I can’t always remember getting those calls but that one I remember. There was a lot of other personal things. I think I had just been dumped. I needed a win. I remember getting that phone call and just thinking, ‘Aw, yes!’ It was really a role that I enjoyed, it was the best paycheck I had ever gotten. It felt like a little bit of a corner had been turned and maybe I could parlay this into something else.”

Evans had even confessed to being “happy with walking away” from the role as it required a lot of commitment. He went on to return to the franchise by portraying Captain America role in the MCU movies.
