Hidetaka Miyazaki, being the icon of a director he has established himself to be, is also the one responsible for delivering what is often credited with being the best PlayStation exclusive title. Bloodborne, a game that came out back in 2015, remains one of the greatest pieces of work that the director has ever created, but it did not come without its own challenges.

Every single game production comes with its own set of challenges, and the same was the case with Bloodborne. Hidetaka Miyazaki had to give up the lead directing position in the development of Dark Souls II as he chose to focus on the production of this PlayStation-exclusive title instead, and it is safe to say his sacrifice did not go in vain.

In an interview via Game Informer, the director revealed why Bloodborne manages to be different than all of his other titles, stating the following-

The first one being it was probably one of the most challenging development cycles we’ve had from a studio perspective. The second, perhaps bigger element is how personal it was for me in the sense that I’ve imparted a lot of my own ideas into this game, whether it be story, the world-building component, or even the game mechanics and game systems that are in place. It is perhaps the strongest reflection of my type of flavoring of a game that one can experience.

Miyazaki disclosed through this statement how FromSoftware faced one of the most amount of challenges during the development of Bloodborne. Furthermore, he also revealed how he was able to connect with the game on a personal level, implementing a lot of his long-thought ideas in the game.

In another interview, the renowned director stated how the PS exclusive title struck him the most. The reason stays the same as the one mentioned above, going over how it happened to be the game where he was finally able to experiment and execute ideas he had been wanting to deliver for a long time.

It truly remains a shame how such a great franchise was simply abandoned by the studio as well as Sony. However, gamers still seem to hold a faint ray of hope that Hidetaka Miyazaki will finally pick up on the series again after his upcoming release of the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, scheduled to release on 21st June 2024.
