With a plethora of different Batmans portrayed by different actors there has always been an underlying competition. Christopher Nolan changed that competition when he created The Dark Knight Trilogy starring Christian Bale in the titular role.

The world-class cinematographer Sir Roger Deakins, known for movies like 1917 and Skyfall talked about the 2022 movie The Batman. Stating that he loved Robert Pattinson’s role as Batman, the cinematographer replied that Christophe Nolan’s movies weren’t really that great as compared to Matt Reeves’ The Batman.

Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy Wasn’t That Great

Well, we are not the ones saying it but the two-time Academy Award-winning cinematographer Sir Roger Deakins believes it to be true. Christopher Nolan changed the genre of superhero movies when he created Batman Begins in 2005, followed by The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises.

With the trilogy receiving several awards and accolades, fans have hailed Christopher Nolan’s trilogy to be one of the finest works of cinema in the superhero genre. It wasn’t until director Matt Reeves decided to do the whole thing again by releasing the 2022 movie The Batman and starring Robert Pattinson in the lead role.

An underlying competition regarding which director’s vision of Batman was better took place but ended on a neutral note. Sir Roger Deakins, known for his cinematographic work in the movie 1917, stated that the 2022 movie was quite better than Christopher Nolan’s trilogy.

“I’m really glad you did Batman because I’ve never been a fan of Batman until your film, and I’ve seen it probably 3 or 4 times now. I think it’s very moving, I love it. I connect with the characters. I connect with what you’re saying with it.”

Although both movies have their own set of good and bad, it seems that the two-time Academy Award winner cinematographer preferred Matt Reeves’ and Robert Pattison’s 2022 movie The Batman.

With Nolan all set to make history again, the director seems to have ended Oppenheimer on the same kind of ending that his 2010 film Inception received. Talking about a nihilistic point of view, Christopher Nolan stated that Oppenheimer and Inception will have a pretty similar ending.

“I mean, the end of Inception, it’s exactly that. There is a nihilistic view of that ending, right? But also, he’s moved on and is with his kids. The ambiguity is not an emotional ambiguity. It’s an intellectual one for the audience. It’s funny, I think there is an interesting relationship between the endings of Inception and Oppenheimer to be explored. Oppenheimer’s got a complicated ending. Complicated feelings.”

Nolan’s latest magnum opus has been making rounds with the release date of the movie approaching closer day by day. Oppenheimer is set for a release date of 21st July 2023 in theaters across the world.
