While Sandra Bullock was nominated for Best Actress, she, unfortunately, returned home empty-handed. However, the one thing that she did receive was unending praise from everyone, everywhere, for pulling off the role. If you know how challenging it was to shoot Gravity, you would know that while Sandra Bullock’s performance appeared to be effortless, it certainly was far from that. From staying isolated for up to eleven hours to getting trapped underwater, Sandra Bullock went through it all. She even admitted to getting hit by depression on set because of her co-star.

Gravity saw Sandra Bullock’s character getting isolated in space, which is as terrifying as it sounds. Talking to Variety, Bullock revealed that since she was filming alone for most of the time, she truly missed interacting with her co-stars. She added that it was a good three weeks when her co-star George Clooney joined her. However, after he left the set, Bullock was hit with depression like never before.

“Every single day. So when George came, it was like an energy force and I was so appreciative of him being there. But when he left, I have never been hit with a depression like that. We had so much fun for three weeks, but then my friend left. I was amazed at how I was affected by him going.”

She also stated that it was difficult saying goodbye to Clooney and she couldn’t even get herself to look at him.

“I had a hard time saying goodbye, I didn’t want to look at him I just gave him a pat and he walked away and I was mad because I felt like everyday I was pushed against a wall with technology.”

It must not be easy for Bullock to go through what she did during her time on the sets of Gravity. Owing to the way she brought Dr. Ryan Stone to life, fans were so invested in the film that they kept forgetting that it was all fiction. No wonder she is one of the most renowned actresses in the entertainment industry!

While director Alfonso Cuarón tried his best to cheer Bullock up, which was usually through an iced latte, the Ocean’s 8 actress didn’t think it was the best idea. This was because she couldn’t get up to use the restroom because of the contraption she was in. However, there was one person who managed to relieve Bullock’s stress – her son, Louis.

Bullock stated to People,

“So the next thing I know, my sweet son [Louis’] face would come up in the small window in the light box. That sweet little face, painfully contorting to the horrific images of his mother strapped and bound in this ugly, ugly machine…..And those are images and damage that he and I will have to address years from now. But Alfonso meant well. He meant well.”

In a separate interview, Bullock stated that Gravity’s team had created a “whole wonderland” on the set for Louis so he could be occupied during the shoot. It looks like Cuarón really cared about Bullock’s well-being!
