Tenoch Huerta who will be seen as the iconic Namor in Marvel’s upcoming Black Panther: Wakanda Forever almost lost his role as the sub-mariner. It was only because of a lie that he was saved. Although he chose an unethical way to escape rejection, he did his part very well as the early reviews of the movie praised him highly.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has the colossal responsibility of closing Marvel’s Phase 4. The project has to conclude an unimpressive slot of Marvel projects but as per the early reviews, Ryan Coogler and team didn’t fail to impress the audience. Some even cited this movie as the best one since Avengers: Endgame.

Tenoch Huerta’s sub-mariner doesn’t know swimming

It sounds ridiculous but, indeed, Namor, the sub-mariner himself doesn’t know swimming. Speaking to Jimmy Kimmel recently at his Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Tenoch Huerta revealed that he didn’t know anything about swimming at all when he signed up for the movie.

The Mexican actor confessed to the talk show host that he faced a massive issue when he first got to know about the full details of the movie. According to Huerta, during his conversation with the director Ryan Coogler, he missed almost everything about the project as the internet froze while Coogler narrated the story. On the other side, instead of asking about all that heavy chunks of details back to him, Tenoch Huerta opted for the safe route and simply said yes to the role.

If the words of the Narcos actor are to be believed, the sudden question he heard from Coogler after the Internet came back was if he knew swimming or not. And to this, instead of yes or no, he replied hilariously that he has never drowned before.

“I’ve never drowned before”

It can be understood that Huerta thought he could face rejection if he said no to Coogler’s question about swimming. So in order to save himself, the actor went for a very diplomatic response.

He explained in the show, that later his team was completely shocked when he spilled out that actually, he doesn’t know anything about his role. As a result, he had a call again with producer Nate Moore. This time also the producer asked him again if he knew to swim to which once again, his reply was the same, he never drowned before.

When Tenoch Huerta’s team asked him to confirm if he could really swim or not, that’s when he revealed his lack of knowledge in swimming. So it is interesting how he signed up for the role of ruler of an underwater kingdom without knowing anything about swimming.

The Sub-mariner needed floaties to swim

Further in the interview, the 41-year-old actor confessed that he only learned about the basics of swimming and had to wear small floaties to carry out his role in the movie. According to him, it was an extremely unglamorous as well as embarrassing scene to swim with floaties in front of that large cast and crew.

It will be proved to the audience if he really saved himself as well as the movie from drowning, given that the Phase 4 of the MCU didn’t go very well. But as per the early reviews, the movie perfectly dealt with the grief and loss it had to deal with along with the primary storyline. While some cited the story as emotional, intense, and cathartic, some also claimed it as the best movie of Phase 4.
