Tom Sizemore and Val Kilmer first joined forces for the 1995 film Heat. The movie achieved significant success, and their collaboration proved to be fruitful. Years later, the two actors reunited for the 2000 film Red Planet. However, their working relationship wasn’t as smooth during that time. Reportedly, there was on-set tension between Kilmer and Sizemore while filming Red Planet.

Some reports suggested that Kilmer was upset about the production paying to ship Tom Sizemore’s exercise equipment to Australia during the making of the film. This particular incident added to the strained relationship between the two actors.

Sizemore mentioned in his memoir, By Some Miracle I Made It Out of There, that a heated argument between him and Kilmer escalated into a shouting match. In the heat of the moment, Sizemore apparently threw a 50-pound weight at Kilmer, although he missed his target. Further, a producer intervened after this altercation.

The producer reportedly advised Sizemore to avoid hitting Kilmer in the face if they were to engage in another intense fight. During an interview, when Sizemore was asked about any significant professional regrets he might have had, to which the actor replied by saying,

” I never fucked up on a movie set, but as far as choices, probably Red Planet. I got into it with Val [Kilmer] on the set and I told him, “I’ve never gone to another planet with you again!” 

Though the actor further claimed that later, the two resolved their differences amicably.

Sizemore passed away on March 3, 2023, at the age of 61.
