Free Guy star Ryan Reynolds has nothing but praise and admiration for Back to the Future actor Michael J. Fox. The Canadian star expressed this in an essay honoring the most influential people of this year. He mainly focused on Fox’s battle with Parkinson’s disease, which also affected Reynolds’ late father.
Reynolds and Fox are real-life friends, and the former shared how his father felt less alone during his fight with the disease because Fox was so open to talk about his condition. He also managed to help millions of other people in the same situation.
Ryan Reynolds Honors Michael J. Fox In A Heartfelt Essay
In an article from Time magazine, actor Ryan Reynolds penned a dedication to Michael J. Fox. He has become an inspiration to many people, his father included, and he felt the need to honor the actor’s service to the public.
“I met Mike 17 years ago. I’ve watched him raise the bar for purpose and passion. It’d be kinda lazy to simply characterize him as the greatest champion of Parkinson’s research on the planet. He’s someone who helped my dad, along with millions of others, feel less alone.”
He also acknowledged Fox’s work as a veteran actor who not only shared his talent with the world but also used his influence to educate and raise awareness.
“It’d be kinda lazy to simply regard him as a movie star who shaped the lives of people all over the planet with a uniquely electric wit and self-aware charm. He’s the sum of these beautiful parts. And so many more.”
Reynolds was so proud to introduce his kid to Fox’s greatest film ever – Back to the Future. Luckily, it turned out to be an instant favorite.
“Last year I watched Back to the Future with my 8-year-old daughter. It’s become her favorite film. And for now, that’s enough for me – and her. One more kid from one more generation sees what I saw.”
Reynolds feels very grateful to Fox for becoming the beacon of hope to everyone who is suffering from the same medical condition, but most especially for helping his father get through tough times.
Michael J. Fox Reveals Honest Feelings About His Illness
Michael J. Fox opened up about his fight with Parkinson’s disease in an interview with The Guardian. He claimed it was no use overthinking about his illness.
“It just is what it is. It didn’t defeat me. I wish it was a heroic thing. I’m not saying: ‘Yeah! Bring it, bring it!’ I hate it. It sucks. It’s a piece of s—t. It’s tough to get up in the morning and keep going. But I have a beautiful family and this office with trophies.”
There is currently no cure for Parkinson’s disease, but there are many types of treatments that can be done to relieve the symptoms and ensure the best quality of life. Fox is looking at the bright side of things despite the challenges that come his way, and this is why Reynolds admires him the most.
