Nancy Meyers, while recalling her time on the sets of Something’s Gotta Give, spilled beans on some behind-the-scenes drama. The film will soon be celebrating its 20th anniversary. The writer-director recently appeared on the Hollywood Gold podcast with host Daniela Taplin Lundberg. During the interview, Meyers discussed the process of casting Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton for Oscar-nominated romantic comedy.
Meyers also recalled how several male executives were disinterested in the film when she initially approached them and presented a story about two middle-aged individuals finding love. Well, the film eventually made it to the big screens and received acclaim from viewers and critics alike.
Jack Nicholson Thought Diane Keaton Developed Feelings For Him
Diane Keaton’s performance was so persuasive that Jack Nicholson, as Meyers mentioned in the interview, believed she had developed feelings for him.
Meyers said (via People):
“We’re rehearsing that scene in the street, where he’s running after her, and he calls me over after one rehearsal. He’s all rattled,”
Meyers recalled that Nicholson approached her on the set and asked what was happening. He informed her that Keaton had just professed her love, leaving uncertain whether Nicholson was horrified or thrilled. Meyers then clarified that she had written that line in the script. Jack Nicholson then expressed his relief upon realizing that the actress was referring to scripted dialogue rather than expressing her genuine feelings.
In the 2003 film, Keaton assumed the role of Erica Barry, a renowned playwright. Erica’s daughter, Marin (played by Amanda Peet), introduces Harry Sanborn (Nicholson), the infamous playboy she is dating. While staying at Erica’s Hamptons home to recover from a heart attack, Harry spends a few days there before going back to New York.
Jack Nicholson Has No Plans To Return To Hollywood
Jack Nicholson has made a huge name for himself in Hollywood, with a successful career spanning decades. The actor has received several awards and big paychecks in the process. Although he retired from the celebrity lifestyle over a decade ago, he occasionally appears at NBA games.
Even though he quit acting by choice, the actor still receives several offers for movies, as shared by Marc Maron and Lou Adler in a recent episode of the WTF With Marc Maron podcast.
Maron: “A friend of mine wanted to put him in a movie. And he had a conversation with him. But Jack says, ‘I don’t want to do it.’ He goes, ‘You know what I did today? I sat under a tree and I read a book.'”
Adler: “That sounds like Jack… He wants to be quiet. He wants to eat what he wants. He wants to live the life he wants.”
Although this revelation might have surprised or saddened many cinema lovers, a lot of his fans have shown their support for the actor on social media platforms.
