Chris Rock’s infamous encounter with Will Smith at the 2022 Oscars, will perhaps go down in history as one of the most confusing and memorable moments at an award show, right next to Kanye West getting on stage and stealing the microphone from Taylor Swift at the 2009 VMAs. What started with the comedian making an untasteful joke pointed towards the actor’s wife, ended with Smith walking up to the stage, slapping Rock across his face, and yelling at him in a room full of A-list actors to get Jade Pinkett-Smith’s name out of his mouth.

The comedian stated that there were many different things that the actor could have done other than getting on stage and physically harming a well-respected member of the film industry.  “For a long a** time I was just mad. Chris Rock did a f***ing joke. I know Will, too… I was like, you couldn’t handle that s**t afterwards. This is the Oscars. The whole world is watching.” The comedian then asked Rock about the incident “I was like, ‘Chris, when he got up why didn’t you run?’ Jones then added, “‘I would’ve been running around that stage like “Will, calm down. Jada, call your man!'”

She even revealed that she had a conversation about the incident with Chris Rock wherein she asked him why he did not start running when he saw Smith walking up to the stage looking very angry. To this, the actor told her that he could not have done that as it would have looked quite odd of him to be running around the stage asking the actor to calm down all the while asking his wife to basically make Smith stop.
