Jake Gyllenhaal’s Road House has lived up to its hype following the release of the movie on Prime Video. Starring Conor McGregor opposite Gyllenhaal, the movie delivered the astounding action fans were expecting.
While Road House was a streaming success for Amazon, Gyllenhaal was not entirely happy with the studios’ insistence on not releasing the action-packed thriller in theaters. But in a recent update, it was revealed that the actor has signed a 3-year deal with the streaming giant.
Jake Gyllenhaal Signed A Huge Deal With Amazon
Jake Gyllenhaal’s production company, Nine Stories, signed a 3-year first-look film deal with Amazon Studios (per Deadline). It was after the actor’s anguish over Amazon’s declining Road House to release in theaters before streaming. Gyllenhaal supported director Doug Liman’s reasoning while he was boycotting the release of the movie on the streaming platform (per Variety).
However, that did not last, not for Gyllenhaal anyway. “Jake is a one-of-a-kind talent,” the head of film production and development at Amazon MGM Studios, Julie Rapaport said (via Deadline). “Whose passion and eye for filmmaking makes him a powerful storyteller both in front of the camera and behind the scenes,” she added.
“Following the record-breaking success of Road House, we could not imagine a better time to officially cement our relationship. Jake has been an incredible partner, and we look forward to collaborating with him and the Nine Stories team to create needle-moving and compelling films from visionary filmmakers.”
Road House has been a success, the remake of the 1989 thriller of the same name starring Gyllenhaal’s Donnie Darko co-star Patrick Swayze, claimed 50 million global viewers in just two weeks of the release of the film.
Jake Gyllenhaal Commented On His Collaboration With Amazon MGM
Following their deal, Gyllenhaal commented on the new formal collaboration between the two parties. Now, the Southpaw actor showered his excitement over the deal. “I’ve worked with Amazon MGM on two films this past year,” Gyllenhaal said of Road House and Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant (distributed by Amazon Studios’ MGM prior to the release on the platform), via Deadline.
“And they’ve been a wonderful partner both times. Their dedication to filmmaking is contagious, and I so admire their commitment to fans all over the world. I am thrilled to formalize what is an already fruitful collaboration—especially on the heels of Road House‘s outstanding debut,” Gyllenhaal added.
The success of Road House has certainly opened new doors to new possibilities. As both the films of the actor streaming on Prime Video have invited astonishing viewership, further collaboration was imminent. It would be exciting to see what they will bring to the table after his recent movie.
Road House is now streaming on Prime Video.
