The James Bond franchise, which started with Sean Connery in 1962 with Dr. No, has come a long way. We have had 6 iterations of the character till now, with Daniel Craig being the latest actor to don the mantle of Agent 007. Considered one of the better iterations of the character, Craig gained a lot of praise for playing the MI6 agent. But after 15 years and 5 films, he decided it was time to say goodbye to the franchise.

2021’s No Time To Die saw the last of Daniel Craig as Agent 007, and in what is considered a drastic move away from the norm, the latest movie in the franchise saw Bond dying at the end, which has never happened before. Since then, fans of the franchise have been waiting with bated breath, speculating who will take on the role next.

Eon Productions, which is the studio behind the franchise, with 25 James Bond film under its banner, have been tight lipped about whom to cast next, as they did not want to rush the process and make the wrong choice. But if recent rumors are anything to go by, then we might finally have our next Bond – and it’s none other than Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

Since Daniel Craig’s departure from the role of James Bond, quite a few names have been making the rounds on who might be cast as the next 007. Along with Henry Cavill, Tom Hardy, and Idris Elba, one of the front-runners in the race to the coveted role has been Aaron Taylor-Johnson. And recently, The Sun reported on March 18 that Taylor-Johnson had been formally offered the role by Eon, and would be signing the contract soon. Although it wasn’t confirmed by representatives of either the studio or the actor, fans finally have something to go on.

And now, a fan-art of Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the next James Bond is being shared on the internet, which has the fans hyped. Showcasing the actor in a 60s inspired logo, his stature as James Bond looks almost perfect. Even though it’s still a rumor, and no confirmation on the matter has been given by the film studio, if Aaron Taylor-Johnson really is the next 007, it will be interesting to say the least.

Not moving away from the quintessential Bond style, if Eon is looking to cast a British white male and continue the decades long tradition, then the 33-year-old actor is definitely one of the better choices. Especially given that his age will give him more time to grow into the role as time passes and he can have better longevity as James Bond.

Given no official announcements have been made, it is not a surprise that Aaron Taylor-Johnson is not willing to divulge anything on the matter. Talking to Rolling Stone UK for their latest cover story, the Bullet Train actor side-stepped, when questioned about his involvement with the franchise, saying:

“I can only really talk about the things I’m going to show and tell,” further adding, “I don’t feel like I need to have a future drawn out for me. I feel like: whatever’s drawn out for me, I can fuckin’ do better.”

Whether he ends up taking on the mantle or not, there is doubt that an actor of his calibre would do the role justice. With experience in being suave, charismatic, and with enough action-packed movies under his belt, it won’t be difficult for the actor to impress the audience as the next James Bond. For now, you can watch Aaron Taylor-Johnson in his upcoming movie The Fall Guy starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, out in theatres on May 3, 2024.
