In Hollywood, it seems that substance abuse is almost a norm, with every other celebrity admitting to having been involved with it. While one could expect some stars in this project to be involved in something or the other of this kind, the narcotic situation of the Oscar-winning film was much more serious than anyone could have anticipated. The reason for this was the fact that a huge majority of the cast and crew came under the influence of hallucinogenic drugs.
Disaster Struck on James Cameron’s Titanic
According to IMDb, in Nova Scotia, on the set of James Cameron’s Titanic, all hell broke loose when criminals, who to date, remain unidentified, entered a mixing, a powder into the clam chowder that was served to the cast and crew of the massive production. This powder in question, was the dissociative hallucinogen, PCP, better known as angel dust. While this may have been funny, bordering a little serious if this was on a smaller scale. Over 80 people were affected by this, with many being taken to the hospital due to how serious their symptoms were becoming, making the matter a greater concern.
While initially this was expected to be shellfish poisoning, when Cameron did the research, he found the cause of this to be completely different. The director noticed that cast and crew members were acting strange, some were asking to see a priest, some were doing the conga dance, and some were talking to the director through a make-believe walkie-talkie, that, when addressed, forced them to a violent Cameron, with the director’s assistant ended up stabbing him in the cheek with a pen, when he brought up the fact that the walkie-talkie was not real.
James Cameron’s Quick Thinking Saved Him
When James Cameron got caught up in what was actually happening, he acted fast and tried to make himself throw up. As he did not have access to a purging agent, he forced himself to vomit before he could feel the effects of the drug. While this worked, it was in and was leaving a side effect, which was his eyes were bloodshot, resulting in the cast members, who were under the influence of drugs, getting frightened by the way he looked.
The culprits of this crime were never caught, however, Cameron had some idea of who It could have been. He speculated that the people responsible for this could have been ex-cast members, who were fired for some reason or the other.
