James Cameron Had To Improvise In A Big Way To Make The Monster For Aliens Due To Budget Constraints

James Cameron might be one of the best directors of all time, but he isn’t a miracle worker. This was the same case for the sequel film – Aliens. As revealed by the Netflix documentary The Movie That Made Us Aliens, Cameron’s team had to create the Alien Queen – a whole new monster for the movie. They ended up doing what they called the Trash Bag Queen.

”We did what we called the Trash Bag Queen. We used foam core and black garbage bags. It was a quick and dirty look at how you can put two stuntmen together inside a queen-sized body and have them operate arms.”

Considering the fact the team had to create 20 aliens for the movie, it is truly remarkable they all managed to brainstorm such an idea and build a makeshift alien in order to ensure the Alien Queen would become a reality.

James Cameron is unlikely to direct another Alien movie due to his deep commitment to the Avatar franchise. With three more sequels planned until 2028 and a whopping $2.9 billion in earnings, Avatar is Cameron’s most successful venture. While speaking in an interview with Famous Monsters, Cameron stated that his busy schedule with Avatar leaves no room for a return to the Alien franchise unless a spectacularly new concept arises.

“Unless somebody could come up with some spectacularly new concept. […] I’ve got my own kind of alien world that I’m enslaved to now with the Avatar films, so I can pretty much rule that out.”

James Cameron cannot be faulted for this decision as Avatar is truly a cash cow that he wants to milk as much as possible. Two films have been out in the last 14 years and with three more to come by 2028, fans can expect a lot of goodness from Cameron.
