With the beginning of the end of the DCEU closing as scheduled, The Flash approaches ever so close with each passing day. And with it, James Gunn is trying his level best to keep the damage to the image of DC Films at bay. With him and Peter Safran taking charge of the new DCU after the imminent fall of the old regime, it becomes. priority for the CEOs to keep the reputation of the company from deteriorating further, even when it’s going through a revamp.
Thus, it was a natural instinct for the director to save the name of the upcoming Shazam: Fury of The Gods from drowning in the sea of negative comments and speculations. But after a recent report, there has been a constant backlash from the fans about how Gunn has decided to do so. Apparently, Tom Cruise was given a special screening of the upcoming film starring Ezra Miller, which he loved to high heaven, although there is one small problem in that narration.
James Gunn Gets Called Out By Angry Fans
As per the latest report by The Hollywood Reporter, it was reported that during a meeting with Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav, Top Gun star Tom Cruise showed interest in watching The Flash so much that he requested to be given permission to screen the film beforehand. The report continued by saying that the film was taken to his Beverly Hills mansion by a company executive, where the star saw the film and liked it so much that he said “this is the kind of movie we need now.”. Although this is excellent news for the upcoming movie, it doesn’t quite add up in one aspect.

The backlash of the fans stems from the fact that the report clearly mentions that the film was taken to Cruise’s Beverly Hills estate, but according to reports from 2016, the star had sold his mansion that year and taken his leave from LA. Thus, the report doesn’t really connect with the narration of the article.
Scoop: TOM CRUISE has seen #TheFlash…and he loved it. A fun story of how Cruise asked WBD CEO David Zaslav if he can see the upcoming DC movie, how Warners sent him the movie (securely, of course), and what happened after. https://t.co/YrGEMK5CFT

This has led many to believe that James Gunn is trying his best to save DC Films’ name from going into ruin from the upcoming Shazam: Fury of The Gods as even the Brightburn director praised the upcoming Ezra Miller starter as one of the best in the industry.
Conveniently right around the time Shazam is bombing on the theatre. WB PR team working overtime.
