James Gunn Promised to Allow Creativity in His Rebooted DCU
Leaving behind Marvel Studios, James Gunn appears to be taking his DCU responsibilities quite seriously. The man behind the Guardians of the Galaxy movies seems to have learned an important lesson during his tenure with MCU, that brought a change in his perspective.
Willing to do things differently with his rebooted DCU, James Gunn mentioned how he won’t be repeating the MCU mistake. Addressing fans’ questions on Instagram, Gunn stated that his upcoming DC movies won’t be following similar “style and tone” to his MCU movies.
“It will shift from project to project and will reflect the unique sensibilities of the filmmakers involved.”
James Gunn confirmed each filmmaker would be allowed to implement their own vision in their respective projects. Announcing this, Gunn alleviated a major fear of DC fans. Doing things better in his rebooted DCU, The Suicide Squad director was appreciated by fans.
James Gunn Will Not be Following Kevin Feige’s Footsteps
Certainly, James Gunn’s plans for the rebooted DCU brought us to address the mistakes committed by MCU. While Gunn confirmed allowing creativity, Marvel Studios seems to face major issues with their phase 5 movies, since too many of the studio’s new movies feel the same.
With a lack of creativity, the Marvel movies are becoming stagnant for audiences. And this problem began, probably because MCU movies are forced to fit in with the overarching narrative. Further, they are also expected to bend to the whims of Kevin Feige. This leads to all sorts of frictions.
Addressing the internal politics, even Nia DaCosta, the director of The Marvels claimed that Kevin Feige has the entire control. Speaking with Vanity Fair, DaCosta mentioned any MCU film “is a Kevin Feige production, it’s his movie,”. Thus, judging by Gunn’s response to his fans’ question, it seems DCU won’t be having a similar problem.
