James Gunn’s movie The Suicide Squad was released in 2021, which revived the interested sinking interest of fans in the DC universe. The most interesting fact about the movie turned out to be its new character Peacemaker, played by John Cena. James Gunn has pitched the initial idea for John Cena’s Peacemaker series apart from his directing and writing duties for other shows. But it would be interesting to know that he wrote the series in 8 weeks.

James Gunn produced the show Peacemaker in an incredibly short duration

James Gunn had put in lots of hard work into developing DC’s first spinoff series, had automatically increased the level of excitement for the fans. As per the reports, Gunn had put the entire show together from pitch to the final production in a record 11 months. It is truly an incredible feat, especially for a prominent franchise like DCEU.

John Cena’s series Peacemaker is unexpectedly very concise, lasting only eight episodes. According to director James Gunn, there is a practical and simple reason behind it. In a Q&A session the director hosted on Twitter, he was asked about the series not being 13 or 24 episodes long like ant traditional network show.

Gunn said it comprises eight episodes because it just took him that many episodes to tell the story. Also, he had to free up his time for another major project Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. He said,

“I wrote the whole series in two months during COVID. The first season is one complete story & 8 episodes were simply how long it took me to tell it. Practically, I also had to finish the series before [Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3] took over my life, so I couldn’t make it too long.”

The entire eight-part series was filmed in hardly 131 days.

Peacemaker had a massive budget of $185 million

As per reports, James Gunn’s superhero blockbuster had an exorbitant budget of $185 million. The production has taken the cast and crew to Panama for shooting on the largest construction project of any movie in the history of Warner Bros. projects. Other intriguing yet expensive features of the series were computer-generated elements, like Eagly or the Butterflies.

Gunn shared with Collider,

“We had a very good budget on Peacemaker, but it isn’t Suicide Squad. And, we didn’t have the time. It was time too.”

Though James Gunn did not the much faith in the project, he did give his best for the series.

Peacemaker features John Cena, Steve Agee, Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland, and Freddie Stroma. Agee and Holland reprised their role from The Suicide Squad film.
