James Gunn Reportedly Bringing JSA in Superman: Legacy

Not long ago, scooper Grace Randolph alleged The Authority might be the main antagonist in Superman: Legacy, which initially fitted well as the next major project in line is The Authority. However, it appears, it is no longer the case, as recent reports from the scooper debunked the rumors surrounding The Authority, claiming the Gunn-led film is reportedly moving towards JSA.

Although she clarified she isn’t sure whether it would be the Justice Society of America or a JSA-type team, following the recent cast reveal for the upcoming film, it might not be further from the truth. With the confirmation of Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, it’s evident the DCU is no stranger to metahuman even before Superman dons the cape. James Gunn also didn’t back away from washing down some fans’ doubts, who are concerned whether the film is heading in the same direction as Zack Snyder‘s BVS.

James Gunn addressed fans’ concerns about the expanding cast of Superman: Legacy

Amidst the many complaints that arose following the disappointment of BVS, the major one was the film which was mainly focused on setting up its future projects. So it’s reasonable to see fans having the same concerns after witnessing the ever-expanding cast of Superman: Legacy, however, Gunn clarified that it will not be the case. The director explained he has never used characters to set up the next film, and the entire cast of Legacy is important to flush out his story for Clark Kent. He explained,

“I’ve never used one movie to set up another movie. The characters are there because they help to tell Superman’s story better, not so we can set up separate projects in the franchise. Superman and Lois are the very clear protagonists.”
