Their chemistry and the sadomasochist relationship shown in the films were the basis of the novel as well as the trilogy. Given the s*xual nature of the films, there were a lot of headlines about the movie as well as the cast members. But the lead cast – especially Dornan and Johnson, were always quick to make fun of the situation as well as themselves to keep things easy and fun, especially on press runs.

While sitting for an episode of The Graham Norton Show, actors Liam Neeson and Jamie Dornan got to talking about Dornan’s projects, and Neeson mentioned how he loved the other actor on the series The Fall. But then he went on to say how he cannot watch “those” movies of his, without mentioning Fifty Shades, as he had known Dakota Johnson since she was a little kid. He said,

“You know I have to say, I love this guy from The Fall, which is fantastic series. I can’t watch those films (Fifty Shades of Grey) because I made a movie with Dakota’s mom many years ago and I used to swing Dakota around at the age of two. So I can’t, I just can’t (watch the movie).”

Responding to Neeson’s heartwarming revelation, Jamie Dornan made light of the situation with a quip, saying, “I think… I think I’ve swung her around a wee bit,” making everyone on set laugh.

Jamie Dornan Hid From The World After Fifty Shades of Grey

After doing Fifty Shades of Grey, Jamie Dornan decided to lay low for a while. He and his wife took a trip to the countryside and lived away from the prying eyes of media and fans alike. The director of the movie, Sam Taylor-Johnson gave them a place to stay and they took the chance. Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs (via DailyMail), Dornan said,

“I think I hid. I am coming off the back of career-altering reviews for The Fall to just ridicule almost. They let us have their place in the country, and we sort of hid there for a while and just shut ourselves from the world a bit and then sort of came out the other side.”

Although the movies were a major hit, the critical reviews were equally scathing. And the actor knew he had to grow a thick skin if he wanted to do the sequels that were greenlit almost overnight, after the release of the first movie. As Dornan said, he has no regrets about doing the series, even if he will never be able to erase the tag of being Christian Grey.
