Van Damme’s affair with Minogue allegedly occurred in 1994, when he was still married to model and actor Darcy LaPier. The rumors persisted for many years, with Van Damme either denying or avoiding the topic whenever he was asked about it. The Double Impact star’s reaction to the affair rumors was initially defensive. He seemed frustrated that he was still being asked about them years later, and even walked out of an interview when the topic was brought up.
“Yeah, I like Kylie, I like everybody. Can I please come to Australia and talk to you… Yeah, I like Kylie. Sorry guys, I cannot do this. You are talking to a guy who is very rough, you know. Let me talk, it’s good for the people, let me talk, please. Because of those questions, you have been asking me, the press that has been asking me the same question for the last 25 years. Kylie, how is your training, how is this, how is that? So, I am coming to Australia to maybe do something different with the audience.”
The Replicant star emphasized that his perspective of looking at life has changed because of his age, and it’s boring to answer the same repeated questions for years. Van Damme said that the same questions are now simply boring and questioned the press if they had any other interesting questions. In the next instance, the Nowhere to Run star simply walked out of the running interview.
“I’m 55 years old. So, I’m no longer 35, or 25, I’m 55 years old, so I have a different POV of life. We will talk about this in Australia, but those interviews you are giving me on TV right now are very boring because the question is boring and it’s difficult for me to answer those questions, so I start to sweat. I don’t feel good because then they are very boring. Ok, so next question. You’ve something interesting to ask me.”
Jean-Claude Van Damme On His Thailand Trip With Kylie Minogue
Jean-Claude Van Damme and Kylie Minogue worked together in the 1994 action film, Street Fighter. The Hard Target star added that he spent some good time with Minogue in Thailand, where Van Damme acted as a personal tour guide to Minogue. After years of denial and avoidance, the Double Team star finally hinted at his possible affair with Minogue.
“I tell you what, you should ask her. She’ll have a better memory… And let’s just say it happened, so what? Who wants to know? Sometimes you let go of stuff… I don’t know, maybe. Yes. OK. Yes, yes, yes. It happened. I was in Thailand, we had an affair. Sweet kiss, beautiful lovemaking. It would be abnormal not to have had an affair, she’s so beautiful and she was there in front of me every day with a beautiful smile, simpatico, so charming, she wasn’t acting like a big star. I knew Thailand very well, so I showed her my Thailand. She’s a great lady.”
