In Mayor of Kingstown, Renner plays the character of Mike McLusky, the so-called “mayor” of their town, a fixer of sorts, whose job is to keep the peace between the local thugs, the local authority, and the political circle. Renner’s character is a genius mastermind who is good at solving problems, having taken over the family business after the death of his older brother.

Jeremy Renner Reveals Which Movie He Would Want To Give The Mayor of Kingstown Treatment

Jeremy Renner has worked on many acclaimed projects like The Hurt Locker, Arrival, The Town, Wind River, and more. While he has Hawkeye – a character he has developed for more than a decade, Renner has rarely worked on projects where he could play on a single character for over multiple episodes or seasons. Well, that is until Mayor of Kingstown.

In a previous interview with Jake’s Takes, Renner talked about which other movie role, other than Hawkeye, would he like to get more time and know better.

“I feel like if I guess I’ve enjoyed the film, I’ve enjoyed the character, I think it could be almost any of them. It could be American Hustle, it could be Jem from The Town, it could be… you know, I could go on and on and on, I mean I… to be able to explore more of a character, you know. It’s never done, right?”

Speaking of how a character or a story is never completely done, like a final brush stroke in a painting, there is always more that can be added. But the actor also said that while he is okay with continuing with a character, he is also okay with putting a full stop when the time comes.

Jeremy Renner Could Do More With His Role on $251 Million Christian Bale Movie

David O’Russell directed 2013 movie American Hustle and saw Jeremy Renner playing the role of yet another mayor in the town of Camden, New Jersey. In the late 70s and early 80s scene, the movie sees Renner playing the role of Carmine Polito, a politician who gets tangled in the web of con-artists Christian Bale and Amy Adams.

Though he genuinely wants to help the people in his constituency, Polito does not know how to actually do it with means that are above ground. Carmine’s character has a lot of depth, and Renner could have done a better job had he gotten the chance with more scenes that mattered. Renner was the only one from the main cast of the movie who was not nominated for an Oscar in the acting category.

American Hustle is available on Paramount Plus.
