Lady Gaga is one of the greatest singers of this generation, who burst onto the scene in the 2000s with her unique composition of songs. The audience liked pop and electronic music, and infusing it with her charismatic personality has made her a globally recognized singer. Her songs like Just Dance, Poker Face, and many more songs were once on top of the charts.

While the singer is known for her immensely successful music career, she has transitioned into the world of acting. Lady Gaga has been part of a few acting projects before, and her most recent project is in the DCU where she will portray the role of Harley Quinn in the sequel to the 2019 Joker. However, the Bad Romance singer’s acting decisions on the set of the films have made her co-stars anxious to work alongside her.

Lady Gaga’s Method Acting Scared Her Co-Stars

During a guest appearance on The Trenches Talk Podcast, Lawrence Sher shared how Lady Gaga totally disconnects from the world to play her role. Sher explained how the singer would be asked to be referred to as “Lee” on set, even behind the scenes.

“I didn’t know Stefani at all. Strangely, I felt like I never even met her, even during the makeup/hair tests. Because again, maybe it was my philosophy of not trying to get in their space.”

Sher stated that he could not interpret the situation, as they were unable to understand the situation, and it felt as if they were polar opposites.

“And then I remember for a week, being like, god, I feel like we are disconnecting. Not even connecting. We are like on opposites. And I would say to my crew, ‘Jesus, I can’t, like, crack it. She either hates me or we hate each other. There’s something weird going on here.’”

Lawrence Sher continued, how the assistant director of the film, advised him to call Lady Gaga as “Lee.” That did wonders to their estranged communication, as for the rest of the production, they could communicate.

“I barely said anything, except I would say, ‘Stefani, this is where your second team was, minor little things,’ and then the AD at one point said, ‘Oh you know, Stef would like if you just called her Lee on set.’ And I was like, oh, 100 percent, and I literally said, the next thing I said, was something ‘Lee,’ and it was like everything changed. From that point on, it was like she was… our whole connection changed. I was like, alright, cool.”

Though it seems extremely strange to hear, Lady Gaga is a method actor. Hence, she prefers to be in her role, and not respond to her real name. This was also evident when she was playing her role in the Oscar-nominated film A Star Is Born, the 2018 film which earned $ 431.8 million worldwide.

Lady Gaga Has To Fill in a Massive Void in Joker: Folie á Deux

Initially, it was announced that Joker: Folie á Deux, would be a musical which would have made more sense, as it would be the ideal choice for the singer. However, she has filled in the void left by the amazing work of Margot Robbie offered in the past few years in Zack Snyder’s DC Extended Universe. Although David Ayer’s Suicide Squad was disappointing to watch, Gunn did great work in the 2021 version of his film.

Even though much is not known about the plot of the film, it will narrate the origin of Harley Quinn, and how she meets the Joker. The title of the movie, Folie á Deux refers to a psychological disorder that two or more people share due to their close relationship.
