Jim Carrey has played several amazing roles in his career. The actor is best known for his comedic roles in films such as The Mask, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Liar Liar, and Bruce Almighty. Starring James Marsden and Ben Schwartz, the video game adaptation has garnered positive responses, with Carrey’s campy performance enthralling audiences. The latest trailer of the third film sees him not only return to the role but also play another character, Doctor Gerald Robotnik.

With a slightly different look, Gerald is the grandfather of Eggman Robotnik and is instrumental in creating Shadow, the hedgehog played by Keanu Reeves who is the main antagonist of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Fans seem to be ecstatic about the actor’s return as the character had been implied to be dead in the second film.

With a similar bald head and a thicker mustache, Jim Carrey’s Gerald Robotnik is sure to be the highlight of the film, just as he was in the recently released trailer.

Jim Carrey has been Hollywood’s biggest hater. The actor has never shied away from mocking the industry and its tropes and even went on to say that his intention was to destroy Hollywood and its rules (via El Pais). So, how did the Sonic team manage to convince him to play a role in three films is beyond anyone’s guess.

Carrey had also announced his retirement from acting in 2022 right before the premiere of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Talking to Access Hollywood, he mentioned that despite being fairly serious and liking his quiet life, all had not ended.

If the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road, but I’m taking a break.

While this puts undue pressure on Sonic the Hedgehog 3, fans just seem to be glad that their beloved character is back.
