British actor John Boyega became a household name in Hollywood after his role as Finn in 2015’s Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens directed by J.J Abrams. He later reprised his role as the famous stormtrooper in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. While Boyega was praised for his performances in both films, the actor was also at the center of a controversy involving the President of Lucasfilms, Kathleen Kennedy.

John Boyega Was Unhappy With His Character in Star Wars

Following the success of the Star Wars films, John Boyega who played Finn in both installments gained recognition for his performance. While the franchise may have made Boyega a star, the actor confessed in not-so-subtle ways that he felt the films treated him and his character unfairly. Boyega made serious claims that race was a defining factor in sidelining him and his character.

“You get yourself involved in projects and you’re not necessarily going to like everything. what I would say to Disney is do not bring out a Black character, market them to be much more important in the franchise than they are and then have them pushed to the side. It’s not good. I’ll say it straight up.”

The actor added that while Adam Driver and Daisy Ridley’s characters had a clear arc that could be developed further, Finn was unfortunately delegated to second place with ambiguous detailing.

Will John Boyega Make A Comeback in the 2025 Star Wars Movie?

It is obvious that there has been bad blood between John Boyega and the Star Wars franchise with the British actor stating that his role as Finn was not given the same importance as the other character arcs. With Boyega bringing color and race to the fore as additional reasons, his relationship with the franchise seemed to be permanently damaged.

But according to recent reports, there might be a reconciliation between the Finn actor and Lucasfilms head Kathleen Kennedy in an effort to bring Boyega back for the 2025 Star Wars film. Both Kennedy and Boyega have reportedly buried the hatchet and found a mid-ground according to John Rocha, who revealed these details in the Hot Mic Podcast. This means Boyega’s reformed stormtrooper will be sharing screen space once more with Daisy Ridley’s Rey.

The 2025 installment will allegedly set right the problematic areas in Finn’s character which Boyega alluded to earlier. While this is heartening news for fans of the franchise and the actor, it remains to be seen if Lucasfilms walks the talk and gives Boyega the recognition he desires for his character.
