It Started With The New Year Resolution Event of 2006!

John Cena was the reigning champion of WrestleMania and had held the championship belt for too long. After winning a ‘Money in the Bank’ match, Edge decided to cash in his reward and challenged Cena to a fight.

Already battered and tired from the previous fight, John Cena tried his best to fend off Edge’s attacks but it didn’t do him any good. With taunts, jeers, and slamming attacks, Edge defeated Cena and earned the WWE title and that’s when the rivalry between the two started!

Edge Invaded John Cena’s Home

After winning the WWE title, Edge decided to get under the skin of his rival. Invading John Cena’s home, the wrestler shot a video of him making a mess out of Cena’s room. Insulting his wrestling career and his school memories, Edge wasn’t done with the Cena household.

In a clip shared online, Edge publicly revealed that he and John Cena Sr. had quite some words.

“You see. I told John’s dad that I was gonna beat him within an inch of his life at SummerSlam and there’s not a damn thing that him, John, any of you people, or anybody in Boston can do about it”

The wrestler received a lot of flake for this move since the boundary between a professional wrestling career and personal space was breached by that point. Edge and his girlfriend Lita became the bad guys.

As the months passed by, John Cena was left with no choice but to defend his title from Edge. In an iconic steel cage match, Edge and John Cena went all out in hopes of winning or keeping the title of WWE.

It Ended With WrestleMania 25

Although successfully defending his title from Edge, the rival finally won and took the championship away from Cena. In retaliation, John Cena, Edge, and, Big Show were involved in a triple-threat match which was the main event of WrestleMania 25.

The alliance of Big Show and Edge soon cracked as the minutes passed on by with every man fighting for himself. In the end, John Cena, in a show of power, lifted Big Show and Edge at the same time and did an attitude adjustment move on Big Show. The wrestler soon dumped Edge on an already-lying Big Show with the same move.

In the end, Cena pinned Big Show and won which got him his second World Heavyweight Championship. Thus, it could be said that Edge and John Cena had a unique rivalry that seemed beyond normal enemies!
