After some heavy sleuthing, it has come to the attention of FandomWire that The Office actor John Krasinski has been seen in and around Sony’s voice recording studios at a time when it can only be due to one reason – recording lines for the upcoming Spider-Man film. Incidentally, Tom Hardy who will be appearing in Sony’s live-action production as Venom was also seen at the location and the coincidence is just too hard to ignore.

What We Know About Into the Spider-Verse

At the December ’17 CCXP held in São Paulo, Brazil, Phil Lord, and Christopher Miller made it clear that the Spider-Verse will hold “more than one who wears the mask.” And even though the movie is inherently a Spider-Man film, Miles Morales will be at the front and center of the plot and not Peter Parker.

Moreover, Lord and Miller claimed that Peter Parker will act as a mentor to Miles Morales and he will be an older and more mature version of the character than the one we have grown accustomed to in the live-action movies. This makes John Krasinski’s presence as Peter Parker perfect since he can embody a mature version of the superhero passing on the baton to his younger protégé.

The trailer shown during the CCXP also makes it pertinent that there is some version of an alternate reality where Peter Parker is dead – made apparent by the shot of the headstone. And Miles Morales asks a version of Spider-Man – “Wait… so how many of us are there?” So it could also very well be possible that Krasinski gets to portray one of the numerous Peter Parkers inhabiting the multiverse.

For now, the confirmed casting includes Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Mahershala Ali will voice Miles’ uncle Aaron, and Brian Tyree Henry voices Miles’ father, Jefferson Morales. Ray Donovan actor Liev Schreiber has also joined the cast in an undisclosed villain role.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will premiere in theatres on December 14, 2018.
