Simon West’s action film Con Air in 1997 is full of both action and humor and has a great cast with a wild story. The movie is based on Cameron Poe (Nicolas Cage)—a recently released ex-convict and former U.S. Ranger. He gets stuck on a prisoner transport plane when the passengers take over.

People had different opinions about the movie, but many liked the cast, the music, and the action scenes. Nicolas Cage’s fans became big supporters of the film, turning it into a cult favorite.

The movie even got Oscar nominations for Best Sound and Best Original Song, specifically for How Do I Live sung by Trisha Yearwood on the soundtrack. Everything was great about this film, but one actor was certainly not happy about one thing in particular.

In an interview with Uproxx‘s Mike Ryan, Nicolas Cage appeared happy when the interviewer brought up a friend who considers Con Air a go-to comfort movie. On this, the Hollywood star:

“She sounds like a great lady and sounds like somebody I could have a good conversation with. That’s the first thing that comes to mind. She sounds like she’s probably a lot of fun.”

While Cage didn’t explicitly say he likes the film, his comments hinted at a positive sentiment towards both the movie and the people who enjoy it. Now, speaking of stars and their opinions, John Malkovich, who portrayed Cyrus ‘The Virus’ Grissom—a highly intelligent career criminal and mastermind of the escape plot—wasn’t all sunshine about the film.

The Hollywood star wasn’t happy while making the movie because the script kept changing almost every day. He had no clue about his character and how it would end up. Despite the challenging experience on set, he seems to love the movie. And even after 25 years in 2021, he still cherishes it.

In an interview with Forbes‘ Simon Thompson, when John Malkovich was asked if he would consider returning, perhaps as Cyrus’ twin brother in the Con Air‘s sequel? To this, the 70-year-old replied:

“I should be Cyrus’s grandfather at this point, but sure, yeah. I liked Simon very much. I had a great time doing Con Air with all those guys. There were such interesting people who I think the audience sometimes forget about. Besides Nic Cage and Johnny Cusack, you’ve got Steve Buscemi, Ving Rhames, Danny Trejo, and Dave Chappelle. Jerry Bruckheimer managed to get all of these amazing guys together, and it was pretty entertaining to be around. I’m not around that much, let’s say pure male energy. You don’t get a lot of that in the business, so it is pretty unique.”

He seems to feel both nostalgic and thankful for the good times while working on Con Air. The movie is available to watch on Amazon’s Prime Video and Disney+.
