Highlander is one of the most captivating movies from the mid-80s, as it revolved around the idea of the origin of immortals and their powers. The film was original and had a gripping plotline with an excellent soundtrack, making it much more than a mere action movie. The film gained a massive fan following, and even after 37 years, the film is as loved now as it was then.

Chad Stahelski’s Explanation for Highlander’s Delay

During an exclusive interview with Deadline, the John Wick director explained the reason for the delay of the movie. Stahelski explained that the movie is filled with a rich mythology, and there are numerous details that are minute but very important for the success of the film. He believes that the remake is different from his John Wick movies as he was not “serving seven seasons of TV plus two spinoffs plus five films.”

“I’ve worked on Highlander for years now, for Henry Cavill. Being retroactive is hard. What’s different between Wick and that? With Wick, you weren’t serving seven seasons of TV plus two spinoffs plus five films. If I were to do a remake of Highlander right now, you’d expect a lot of mythology in those first two hours; you couldn’t explore stuff without it.”

The director further explained that Highlander as a TV Series would be fantastic as they would get ample time for the flashback and the mythology present in the film. Including all those themes is important for the remake to work and be as memorable as the original film.

“Now, Highlander as a TV show now would be amazing. You’d have time to build it out, see all those flashbacks and the potential of it. It’s trickier when you’re trying to do something with that big of a mythology. But I agree, that would be one to take a really big stab at. Here, we just had the opportunity to really learn as we went on with Wick.”

Since Chad Stahelski knows what he is doing, it will be intriguing to see what does with the remake when it gets to production. But is the Henry Cavill starring remake worth the wait?

Will Henry Cavill be Part of the Remake?

Highlander is an original movie from 1986 that has a lot of intriguing plotlines and mythologies. While some people found the film to be boring and lackluster, there are others who were immensely impressed. The inclusion of Henry Cavill would be a great addition to the remake because the actor is a self-proclaimed nerd and he would give a new life to the film.

Henry Cavill’s love for games and comic books is where his characters originate from. As a result, fans could see him being iconic in the role of Superman, as well as in the role of Geralt of Rivia in the Netflix original series The Witcher. Moreover, the actor tends to look into the franchise’s background so that he can make the best film possible, and the audience could enjoy watching him on the screen.

Moreover, the original film had a lot of action where the immortals battled for supremacy, fans can expect that the remake would have a lot of action as well. Despite fans being annoyed because of the delay of the remake, it shows immense promise. But will it make the film worth it after such a long wait?
