The director of the franchise Chad Stahelski recently told Screen Rant that he is flattered by the studio’s efforts to change the Academy’s views on action cinema. He also claims that the efforts of his crew stand equal and must be recognized like any other films that the Oscars tend to recognize as quality films. He said,

“I was pretty impressed. I don’t know if people know how it works, but it’s up to the studios to push forward, and they put up the money, and the time, and they get the whole crews together to help promote the film to the Academy members and to the public.

The Academy has been super helpful in the last year to move things forward. I really think within two years we’ll have an Academy Award for stunts.”

The film definitely deserves a nomination for Best Cinematography, Best Editing, and Best Production Design. It remains to be seen whether the film receives some love from Academy members and maybe even wins in some categories.
