The duo evidently met on the set of their movie and instantly sparked romance, despite Pitt being in a committed relationship with Jennifer Aniston.

However, things could have turned out quite differently since the infamous role of John Smith was originally offered to Johnny Depp.
While Pitt mesmerized his audience with his performance in the 2005 movie, making fans wish for no one but him, suitable for the role; Johnny Depp was the initial choice. Being one of the biggest actors in the industry, Depp was the first choice of the entire crew for the role of John Smith. And evidently, the actor even accepted the role. However, eventually, as the actor was balancing a lot on his plate, he had to turn down the $487M movie.
Facing scheduling conflict, the Pirates Of The Caribbean actor has to back down from the project. Although Johnny Depp is known for balancing several roles at a time, he failed to manage shooting schedules for Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Evidently, the actor chewed more than he could swallow, thus, leading him to walk away from the pivotal role. However, as it appears, things happen for a reason. Since, if Depp would have accepted the role, Brangelina would have never happened.
