Chris Evans Teased His Return?

During the release of his 2022 film, Lightyear, Chris Evans sat for an interview with Josh Horowitz. While he spent most of the interview talking about his animated Disney film, the topic of his time at Marvel is difficult not to bring up. Interestingly enough, he was asked if he would ever consider coming back as Johnny Storm and not Captain America.

No, no one’s ever come to me about that. I mean, I don’t exactly look the same anymore. That was 15, almost 20 years ago. Oh my God, I’m old. But I really love that character.

The question seemed to have caught the actor by surprise, remembering how long it had been since he played the character. He then questioned if he could even come back to the role since it had been so long. When Horowitz told him that the possibilities of the multiverse were endless, Evans was intrigued at the idea of coming back as one of the Fantastic Four.

I mean, I guess all bets are off. Yeah. Look, I would love it. I would love it. That would actually be an easier sell to me than coming back as Cap,

So much so, that he pointed out that he would be more open to coming back as Storm than reviving his role as Captain America.

Chris Evans Does Not Want To Play Captain America Again

Chris Evans then elaborated on why he was more open to the idea of coming back as Human Torch and not Captain America. According to the actor, the end that Steve Rogers met was perfect. The story needs no more additions in his eyes, and he does not want to touch that legacy. However, he recognizes that the same was not the case for Johnny, who hadn’t even begun his story before he was forced to end it.

You know what I mean? Cap is so precious to me. And you know, I almost don’t wanna disrupt what a beautiful experience that was.

The franchise was still trying to establish itself, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe did not exist. This made all projects that were released at the time expendable. Unfortunately, the same happened with his 2005 film series, Fantastic Four. With this in mind, the actor mentioned that he would love to come back in some way or another and play the character again.

But Johnny Storm, I feel like he didn’t really get his day. That was before Marvel really found its footing. So I loved that role and, you know, who knows.

Thankfully, these were not false promises, and fans got to see him put on his Fantastic Four suit once again.
