Golden Wind is the fifth of eight parts in Hirohiko Araki’s ongoing series Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure and highlights pivotal periods in the broader franchise. To this day, Golden Wind stands out as the only continuity that diverged from the same, fundamental formula used to create every other arc. Golden Wind is about Giorno Giovanna and his journey to become a Gang-Star.
However, there is one aspect of the 5th arc which Araki had to change. The idea of Fugo leaving the Passione was different from the initial intent of Araki. Instead, he wanted Fugo to betray the gang. Fugo, who began as a fundamental member of the gang, ends up abandoning the rest of his companions around the midway point of the story.
Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure’s 5th Arc – The Golden Wind
Golden Wind, also known as Vento Aureo, is the sixth story arc in Hirohiko Araki’s Japanese comic series JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. It ran in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump for just under four years, from December 11, 1995, to April 5, 1999. It was titled JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 5 when it was first released. Originally it was called Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 5 – Giorno Giovanna: A Golden Heritage. The story follows Giorno Giovanna, the illegitimate son of the long-deceased Dio Brando, who desires to overthrow the head of the corrupt mafia in Italy in 2001 dominating his city of Naples with the help of a team of fellow Stand users.
Golden Wind was one of the most important arcs of the series for many reasons. But one of those reasons was Golden Wind pushed the boundaries of what its creator was willing to put into his content. The Manga was already too tragic and dark and Golden Wind was thought to be a part of the tragic aspect, but Araki couldn’t do it and it had to be changed completely.

Golden Wind Was Changed Completely By Hirohiko Araki
In the initial plotting of the arc, Araki wanted to make the tsundere Pannacotta Fugo into a traitor to Bruno and Giorno’s gang, but he couldn’t bear it and changed his mind. Instead, Fugo was written out of the plot simply by refusing to risk his life by continuing to accompany the rogue Bruno in the continuous battle against the wicked Diavolo.
The JoJo manga has featured tragic or terrible events, but Fugo’s potential betrayal was too much for Golden Wind. Therefore Araki changed the manga and by the time the anime was in production, the animation crew had figured out how Fugo’s story would conclude. This allowed them to define his character more, giving him the youthful genius backstory and incorporating a short scene of him when Narancia perished in the final battle.
