The highly anticipated sequel to 2019’s Joker, titled Joker: Folie à Deux, has excited fans by dropping a new trailer, delving more into what this new project has to offer. Starring Joaquin Phoenix, the upcoming project is set to delve deeper into Joker’s psyche but one intriguing aspect has excited fans.
The new trailer has unraveled several interesting scenes that would keep the story moving but the trailer has introduced Harvey Dent in the movie. Although it is yet to be confirmed, Harry Lawtey is seemingly portraying the iconic role. Yet, nailing this character would be a hefty task as Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy has already set the bars sky high.
Joker: Folie à Deux New Trailer Seemingly Reveals Harry Lawtey’s Character
Amid much anticipation for the upcoming DC movie, the Joker: Folie à Deux has released its new trailer, delving into what Joaquin Phoenix‘s Arthur Fleck has been up to since debuting in 2019’s Joker.
While the visual scenes dropped many hints to what Todd Phillips offered a big reveal as it features a voice heard off-screen which is credited to Gotham City’s iconic villain, Harvey Dent.
For the unversed, Dent is a district attorney who becomes the villain Two-Face, who has a crucial role in the Batman universe. His transformation from a lawyer to a vengeful villain offers a rich background, bringing much depth into the movie that is focused on exploring the characters’ psychology.
Although the new trailer didn’t reveal his face, the captions in the trailer reveal him saying, “They believe Arthur Fleck to be some kind of martyr. Well, he’s not. He’s a monster” in the first 20 seconds of the clip.
As for now, no cast has been officially revealed to portray this character. But, Joker Folie News on X suggested that Harry Lawtey could be playing Dent. Check out the tweet here.
Although Lawtey is officially cast in an undisclosed role, he does bear a resemblance to the character, which could further support the report. Nonetheless, Harvey Dent is officially in the movie, which is more than enough to increase the hype, given that the character was last seen in The Dark Knight.
Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Set the Bar High in Portraying Harvey Dent
Christopher Nolan has garnered global hearts with his iconic The Dark Knight trilogy featuring Christian Bale in the titular role. Apart from its gritty themes, intricate storytelling, and stunning visuals, the movie meticulously focused on its characters, with one being Dent aka Two-Face.
Portrayed by Aaron Eckhart, his character garnered critical acclaim, playing a significant role in the movie’s success. The filmmaker curated his character in such a way that it boasted both heroic and tragic traits, embodying the duality theme, which was another crucial trait of the movie.
Introduced as Gotham’s White Knight who used to be a symbol of hope and integrity, he turned into a vengeful villain after a horrific accident, that brought a compelling narrative to the arc.
However, it was Eckhart who brought the character to life, bringing the nuance that was needed to showcase the character. Given that fans are already introduced to the character in live-action through Eckhart’s efforts, Lawtey (who seemingly plays the role) faces a considerable challenge to provide justice to the character.
Since fans will inevitably compare the character to the one in Nolan’s The Dark Knight, tackling this would surely be a hectic task. Given that Phoenix’s Joker resonated with audiences, there is still room for hope on how Phillips would bring the character into the upcoming film.
