Marvel fans are hyped for Daredevil: Born Again. They are even giddier because a lot of the cast members from Netflix’s Daredevil show are returning like Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin, and Jon Bernthal as Punisher, among others. The show will have 18 episodes, and as such, fans are hoping that it will flesh out characters who can then go on to have their own shows, like Punisher.

Jon Bernthal’s Punisher had his own show before it was cancelled with all the others on Netflix. Now, Bernthal’s return as the vigilante has sparked hopes among fans about a solo series again. As per reports, a Punisher series will happen on Disney+.

As per reputed film insider and Twitter user MyTimeToShineHello, Jon Bernthal’s Punisher will get a solo show on Disney+ soon. Since the vigilante is a nemesis of Daredevil, so it makes sense that Marvel will try to develop Matt Murdock’s main antagonist more so that they can clash at a later date. After all, Vincent D’Onofrio has hinted that talks of a Daredevil season 2 have already begun. Here’s what the scooper tweeted:

“Not just Daredevil, Punisher getting a new show on Disney+ too.”

Marvel fans are already in a celebratory mood after getting this scoop. However, it will be better to tamp down the excitement because reportedly Marvel Studios is cutting down on their output. Industry insider Jeff Sneider on The Hot Mic podcast said that the target output of Marvel has been reduced a little. As per Sneider:

“Marvel’s target output has been reduced…I’m told that the target output has been reduced from four shows and four movies a year to two shows and three movies a year. And of course, that’s malleable. You could get one on either side of that, or whatever.”

Kevin Feige, the President of Marvel Studios, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, also hinted at this by highlighting the problems of pumping out more projects. He said:

“I do think one of the powerful aspects of being at Marvel Studios is having these films and shows hit the zeitgeist. It is harder to hit the zeitgeist when there’s so much product out there — and so much ‘content,’ as they say, which is a word that I hate.”

As such, it’s now a wait-and-watch game to see if Bernthal’s Punisher project actually happens or not. But even if it doesn’t happen, it looks like Frank Castle will have a lot to do in the Daredevil: Born Again show.

Film scooper, CanWeGetSomeToast spilled some details about Punisher’s role in the upcoming Charle Cox-led Marvel Disney+ series. As per the insider, Jon Bernthal’s Punisher will address the real-life issue of cops and members of law enforcement using his iconic skull logo. The scooper said:

“Got confirmation from the set of #DaredevilBornAgain on the scenes that #Punisher shot this week. He is NOT a fan of some cops misusing his logo 😳 he takes matters into his own hands when he encounters some racist cops ‘You and I are not the same'”

This isn’t the first time such an issue has been addressed by Marvel. Gerry Conway, the creator of Punisher renounced the use of the skull imagery by law enforcement. In an interview with Syfy, Conway said, “Whether you think the Punisher is justified or not… he is an outlaw. He is a criminal. Police should not be embracing a criminal as their symbol.”

Fans also hope to see Daredevil and Punisher clash with each other in the Disney+ show, just like they did on Netflix. However, with rumors about the blip (Thanos snap) affecting the characters of the show, it remains to be seen if the relationship dynamics between the characters will change. Will the rumored inclusion of Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones add to the suspense? Fans are waiting to see if Marvel can write a better Matt Murdock/ Daredevil and Frank Castle/ Punisher than Netflix.

Daredevil: Born Again will reportedly stream on Disney+ in 2024.
