Jordan Peele is quickly cementing himself as the finest director of the current generation with award-winning films like Get Out and Us under his belt. His third directorial venture, Nope, was met with mixed to positive reviews but generated a lot of buzz, proving that fans eagerly look forward to anything the auteur cooks up.
Peele is now preparing to start production on his fourth feature film as a director. In a recent interview, Peele hinted that his upcoming project might be his favorite film he has worked upon. While Peele did not share any particular details about his new project, the acclaimed director’s comments will excite fans for his newest offering.
Jordan Peele is Planning His Fourth Directorial Effort With a Yet-Untitled Project
Following his success with the sketch comedy series Key & Peele, Jordan Peele focused on direction. His crisp and poignant filmmaking style that blends social issues with horror has become a trademark of Peele over his three directorial ventures. Recently, Peele made an appearance on the podcast Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend.
During his conversation with O’Brien, Peele discussed plans for his fourth directorial effort.
“This has been…obviously, it’s been an interesting year because the writer’s strike had had me in a state of listening, and that’s where I need to be. I do feel like my next project is clear to me, and I’m psyched that I have another film that, you know, could be my favorite movie if I make it right.”
As evidenced by Peele’s comments, the director seems to have settled on an idea for his next feature film. Moreover, Peele is excited to start work on the project, which was formally announced by Universal Pictures, in March 2023. However, the title of Peele’s next film remains unknown, and the director ensured he did not leak any details during his chat with O’Brien.
Jordan Peele’s Next Project Likely to be a Thriller Like Nope and Get Out
Peele’s conversation with Conan O’Brien implied that the director was unsure of his next project following the release of Nope, starring Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, and Steven Yeun. It received a mixed response from critics and fans. Despite being Peele’s most expensive venture, it became his lowest-grossing film. Hence, it is understandable that Peele did not want to rush into his next project.
When his debut feature film premiered in 2017, Peele stated that he planned to make four more “social issue” thrillers. In the years since Peele has directed Us and Nope, which can be broadly classified as thrillers despite the director’s genre-defying filmmaking. Therefore, it is safe to say that Peele’s next directorial venture will also be a thriller.
