Producers Molly Smith and Trent Luckinbill revealed that actors Josh Brolin, Benicio del Toro, and Emily Blunt are eager to reprise their roles for a potential third sequel.

But here’s the catch. Fans have that one specific condition for the sequel, and they believe there’s no point in making another film if that condition is not followed.

In a recent interview, the franchise’s producers, Molly Smith and Trent Luckinbill, spoke to Collider while promoting their Netflix film Reptile.

The duo revealed their intention to bring back Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin, and Benicio del Toro for Sicario 3. It would be interesting to see Blunt’s return because her character was absent from Sicario: Day of the Soldado. As the producers said:

“Our idea is to get the cast back together with Benicio, Emily, and Josh, and we’ve got a great story to tell…Benicio, by nature of just working with us most recently, has been probably the closest to it at the moment. But we’re keeping all the talent informed. They’ve stayed close to it. Like Trent said, the strike has just slowed us down a bit on this last draft, but I think everybody is very excited. Everyone sort of knows the framework of the story and is very excited to, hopefully, get our shooting draft in order very soon.”

Besides watching all these actors again, fans have that one condition. They want Denis Villeneuve to come back as the director for the third sequel, or else it won’t make any sense.

No doubt, Villeneuve’s direction played a major role in making the film a masterpiece. And it would be great to see if he again directs its third installment.

Smith and Luckinbill also revealed that Del Toro is most involved with the third sequel currently. It’s because they have spent quite a time working together on their recent project, Reptile.

Anyway, this doesn’t mean Blunt and Brolin are excluded from the film. Smith also confirmed that the main trio (including all three actors) is on board. And they all want to return to conclude this part of the story.

Fans are literally very excited to see the third installment of the franchise. As one X user (@halacln) commented: “This is what we want to hear.” Another wrote (@Mighty1Lucas): “I hope it happens the first two movies was lit.”
