High-profile divorces and marriages are the constant talk of the town in Hollywood. One such couple was Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez, who started dating after crossing each other’s paths in 2010 on the set of Dark Tide. They got engaged after two years in 2012 and then got married a year later in 2013.
But the marriage that seemed like a perfect fairy tale came crashing down in 2015 when the duo announced their separation and the subsequent divorce in 2016. The duo also co-parents their son Maceo together, but recently the actress sought court intervention regarding a co-parenting agreement. However, the said request was denied by the judge overlooking the case.
Judge Denies Halle Berry’s Bid to Compel Olivier Martinez to Attend Co-Parenting Therapy
Halle Berry had sought judicial intervention regarding the co-parenting agreement with her ex-husband Olivier Martinez. The actress had alleged that the French actor has not adhered to their agreed-upon plan to see a co-parenting coach for their 9-year-old son, Maceo. As reported by People, the previously married couple had made an agreement on 29th May to attend a co-parenting therapy to try and resolve their disputes for the sake of their child.
However, the actress now claims that Martinez abruptly stopped attending these sessions and did not even inform her or the coach regarding the same. She detailed the entire ordeal in a new filing submitted to the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles County on August 1. The filling further details that the actor has shown a complete disregard for their agreements and court orders, further negatively impacting their son and their co-parenting relationship.
Berry further requested the judge to compel Martinez to attend at least one more coaching session before the end of July and to continue with the already agreed-upon sessions in August. The actress asked the court to enforce the actor’s compliance with their agreement by the end of July 29.
However, Judge Shelley Kaufman had a different approach for the same, and she denied Halle Berry’s request on “lack of exigent circumstances.” Future, the judge didn’t see it as an urgent matter that required an immediate action.
Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez’s 8-Year Long Divorce Battle
Halle Berry filed for divorce in 2015, but it took an unexpectedly long time, dragging on until 2023. The couple had a strong prenuptial agreement in place that simplified assets and other divisions, but the delay was due to a protracted custody battle over their 9-year-old son Maceo. The previously married couple failed to reach a consensus on a fair custody agreement and child support, which led to several years of legal battles.
The proceedings of their divorce were so complicated that in 2016, they opted to bifurcate their divorce. This procedure allowed the duo to separate financial and marital status aspects from the contentious custody battle. In August 2023, a consensus was finally established, and Berry and Martinez were instructed to equally share the custody of their son.
Further, the actress will have to pay Olivier Martinez $8,000 per month in child support (via People). Not only this, but she’ll also have to give 4.3% of her annual income exceeding $2 million. Apart from these expenses, the actress is also responsible for Maceo’s health insurance, his medical expenses, as well as school fees and extracurricular activities.
