Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen allows its characters to have their unique powers through what we call Cursed Energy. It is used to exorcise curses that are created in places with an overwhelming amount of negative human emotions, such as a hospital, a prison, or a school for that matter.
While there is a fundamental system to how power scaling works in the series, there are characters like Toji Fushiguro and Maki Zenin that defy this fundamentalism. These two characters pose to be a few of the most powerful in the series, without even having any cursed energy.
While these characters might not possess the ability to see and exorcise curses, they are still able to be capable sorcerers and fighters with the help of Heavenly Restriction.
What Is Heavenly Restriction In Jujutsu Kaisen
Sorcerers of the Jujutsu World are supposed to be born with a cursed technique already engraved on their minds. An example of this is the 10 Shikigami cursed technique of Megumi Fushiguro and Gojo Satoru’s Limitless technique.
However, when characters like Maki Zenin are born without the ability to make use of cursed energy and techniques, they are instead given a significant boost in other aspects. In Maki and Toji’s case, they both were given superhuman strength, which allowed them to wield and use cursed weapons efficiently.
Mechamaru is another example of what Heavenly Restriction can do. He was born with a dysfunctional body but was granted the ability to use his cursed energy technique of controlling mechs and puppeteering across the whole country of Japan.
Why Heavenly Restrictions Are No Less Deal Than A Cursed Energy Technique In Jujutsu Kaisen
In the scenario of both Toji and Maki, they were unfortunate enough not to receive cursed technique at birth, however, their heavenly restriction pacts allowed them to be as strong as any sorcerer in the Jujutsu World.
Toji Fushiguro’s heavenly restriction in particular came in handy, as it granted him insane amounts of raw and sheer physical power, allowing him to be one of the fastest characters in the series. His heavenly restriction gave him so much strength as well as heightened senses that it allowed him to best even the likes of Gojo Satoru and Geto Suguru when they were students at Jujutsu High.
Both Toji Fushiguro and Maki Zenin originate from the same Zenin clan of Jujutsu Kaisen, however, they both were treated less than others since birth due to missing cursed energy techniques. Both of these characters soon left the clan and went on to create their own ways in life, proving everybody in the clan wrong once and for all.
