Toge Inumaki is a major supporting character in Jujutsu Kaisen. He is a second-year student of Tokyo Jujutsu High and a member of the Inumaki clan. The Inumaki clan is one of the most powerful and well-known clans in Jujutsu Kaisen. Toge Inumaki played a major role in Jujutsu Kaisen season one and Jujutsu Kaisen 0. In both times, he befriended Yuji Itadori and Yuta Okkotsu even though they were under the watch of the Higher-Ups.
During the Shibuya Incident arc, he was busy helping the civilians escape the area since it was soon going to be turned into a battle. His clan specializes in the Cursed Speech Technique, which is a powerful ability to possess. The Cursed Speech Technique makes him a semi-grade one sorcerer, but the ability can also be hard on him.
Cursed Speech Technique’s Positives and Negatives
Toge Inumaki’s Cursed Speech Technique is like an impending doom for his enemies and a double-sided sword for him. Being born in the Inumaki Clan, he possessed the ‘Snake and Fangs’ seal of the Inumaki clan on either side of his tongue and covered both sides of his mouth. The seal helps him infuse Cursed Energy with his words. When he says any command, it can affect the living beings to whom the command is directed.
By uttering a few words, he can dismantle or kill Cursed Spirits that are weaker than him. For Cursed Spirits with greater Cursed Energy than him, Toge Inumaki needs to infuse more energy into his words. Chanting ‘Explode’ can cause his targets to violently explode, or chanting ‘Stop’ can immobilize his targets for him to get a clear shot. It can also work in his favor when he needs to convey something to his friends.
If he sees any impending danger, he can chant ‘Run Away’ targeting his allies to take shelter from the danger. But using the Cursed Speech Technique can take a massive toll on his body. Continuously using this ability can cause a sore throat and even cause him to bleed or cough up blood. For that reason, he needs to carry medicine for his sore throat problems.
Toge Inumaki cannot randomly converse with his friends since his Cursed Speech Technique can cause harm to them. He uses a few selected words related to several onigiri rice ball recipes, which are Japanese delicacies. His daily conversation words include ‘Salmon’ for yes, ‘Bonito Flakes’ for no, and a few others like ‘Kelp,’ ‘Tuna Mayo,’ etc.

Toge Inumaki’s life is based on disciplinary manners, and he leads a restrained life. Even though the Cursed Speech Technique is pretty strong, it can also harm him. He needs to make the best out of every move and try to minimize the damage dealt to his throat. On the other hand, he cannot converse like a normal person as the fear of hurting his friend is always at the back of his mind.
Harmless speech is something he needed to practice from a young age. People who meet Toge Inumaki for the first time may have difficulty understanding him, but as they get to know him, they understand how good of a human being he is. He has the capability of being a grade-one sorcerer if he finds better ways to use such an overpowered Cursed Technique.
